This wall is just over 24 metres in length and to conform with building regulations could only be 105cm tall. Rather than a straight run we put in a curve to make it more appealing. We have never done a turf top on a wall but it made sense given the overall height constraints and again it added to the overall appeal of the wall.
Going uphill can be a challenge and this wall was built using reclaimed stone that gathered from the garden rather than buying in new walling stone. We think at some point the wall had been dismantled to raise the ground level because of the poor drainage.
We fixed the drainage problem by locating and tapping a natural spring in the garden. It was a real DIY fix but it works and does the job. It saved thousands in groundwork costs and is still going strong
